In a recent study conducted it was shown that there are several benefits to playing your Holden Scramble Local Event in groups of eight.

Whilst playing times did increase dependant on the size of the field, the slightly longer day out on course is of no concern for players wanting to ensure the results of the event they’re playing in.

In an attempt to help put their member’s minds at ease, several golf clubs have adopted playing in groups of eight to help remove any preconceived ideas of winning scores of the event. In several cases after implementing this format, players will now no longer play unless it is groups of 8.

It is highly encouraged that ready golf is promoted for your event to ensure that the round is completed as quick as possible. Informing your players during the briefing and at registration are good ideas to help this.

Hear what other people have had to say about playing in 8’s:

Marcus Ryter – Branxton Golf Club
“It has been received really well by the members here, now that they play in 8’s people say they wouldn’t have it any other way”

Adrian Edwards – Katanning Country Club
“It’s a great way to protect the integrity of the event. The large majority of golfers do the right thing, but still the perception remains that self scoring is open to abuse. We would not change back to self scoring”
