Twin Waters Golf Club will be overrun by 112 amateur golfers and 28 professionals from 25-27 May for the Volkswagen Scramble Championship Final.

Teams of four amateurs and one professional from around the country will descend on the Sunshine Coast for four days of golf including practice and competition rounds, social activities, and the opportunity to play with a PGA Tour Professional.

Bargara Golf Club Professional Phil Curd is one of the 28 club pros participating in the Volkswagen Scramble Championship Final after qualifying for the final stage for the first time.

“It’s been a long time coming but we have finally made it,” said Curd who has been running Volkswagen Scramble events since the series originated in 1992.

“I’m over the moon with the result and can’t wait to finally experience the Championship Final and all it has to offer.”

PGA Professional Luke Young and amateurs Michael Lowrie and Wilf Herweg have also qualified through to the Championship Final for the first time this season after supporting the event for many years.

Volkswagen dealership Warwick Volkswagen will be represented in the 2018/19 Championship Final after staff member Chris Hynes qualified for the event with the Warwick Golf Club team at Palmer Gold Coast Regional Final.

Hynes played alongside teammates Neil Moore, Caleb King and Rhys Farrell with Warwick Head Professional Sam Eaves guiding the team.

“It’s amazing to qualify through to the Championship Final with any club, but qualifying through today with your home club makes the win that much sweeter,” said Eaves who enters his second consecutive Championship final after qualifying with Allora Golf Club last season as a PGA adopt a Professional.

As one of the last teams to qualify at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide last week, the South Lakes Golf team consisting of PGA Professional Simon Pope and amateurs Craig Freer, Troy Hamilton, Paul Searl and Sam Russell combined for a score of 51.7 to win their way through.

“It was an awesome day out there,” said amateur player Craig Freer. “The weather was perfect, the course is in really great condition, and to top it off we had a cracker round.”

“We played in local events at Murray Bridge, Aston Hills and South Lakes Golf Club just to qualify through to a Regional Final. Call it third time lucky!”

This will be PGA Professional Simon Pope’s third time at the Championship Final.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to go to the Championship Final a few times before so I know what these boys are in for,” Pope added.

“I couldn’t be more stoked to have won it with this team, the guys played so well and they deserve to go through to the Championship Finals.”

The Volkswagen Scramble Championship Final will be played from 25-27 May at Twin Waters Golf Club on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
