Rockhampton Golf Club has kicked off the 2019/20 Volkswagen Scramble season in style with a huge field taking to the course last weekend.
The Volkswagen Scramble, now heading into its 28th season and second with title sponsor Volkswagen Group Australia, remains the most popular team pro-amateur golf event in the country, averaging 33,000 participants per year and over 400 local events.
Teams around Australia are competing in local events for the chance to progress to the Regional Finals in March 2020, before they’ll play-off for the opportunity to take part in the much sort after Championship Final on the naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast in May.
A long-time supporter of the Scramble, Rockhampton Golf Club has been running local events since the mid-1990s and in 2019, Head Professional Ian Collins was again pleased by the size of the field at the season’s opening event.
“To have 120 players this year just shows how popular this event continues to be,” said Collins.
“It’s an event that our members always look forward to and it’s fantastic to have two of our teams now progress to the Regional Finals in March.”
Taking out the day with a great score of 54.5 was the team of Kerri McHugh, Joy Coombes, Richie Pershouse and Rowan Coombes who nudged out the second place team of Greg Rideout, Taylah Rideout, Adam Anderson and David O’Leary by just 0.9 of a shot.
Supporting the event again this year was local dealership Rockhampton Volkswagen.
“It’s great to get out into the local community and be involved in such a great event,” said Michael Jones, Fleet Manager for Rockhampton Volkswagen.
“To be able to come out, showcase some of our vehicles and remind everyone that just by playing they now become eligible for an exclusive Volkswagen Scramble $1,000 offer discount on those cars is also a great benefit for being involved,” added Jones.
The 2019/20 season of the Volkswagen Scramble runs through to March 1, 2020 and with new events confirmed each day players are encouraged to keep an eye on the schedule here and book in their event early.
