In December, 30 teams of amateurs and their local PGA Professionals from around Australia will travel to the Twin Waters Championship layout for the big dance; the 2014 Holden Scramble Championship Final.
While players will be competing for the chance to have a tour pro join their team on the final day, they’ll also be chasing the coveted Holden Scramble Championship Title. The leading gross team from the combined Mixed and Women’s Finals will then represent Australia against China in 2015 in both a home match on the Sunshine Coast and an away match in China.
The Championship Final delivers all the atmosphere and competitiveness of a professional tournament with a line-up of social functions to remember. From the Welcome Dinner under the stars to the Theme Night and Gala Presentation dinner, the Holden Scramble participants who represent their club at the Final are provided with the chance to take home much more than the title of Holden Scramble Champions.
Former PGA Tour Professional, Jason Shine, played with the winning team in 2013 and believes the Holden Scramble tournament is unlike any other. “It’s an event that gives players of all skill levels an opportunity to play in pressure-cooker environments alongside Professional players and with championship-standard organisation”.
“The Holden Scramble is the only time golfers of this handicap level will feel the pressure of an absolute championship – the course is set up like a tournament course, people walking around with you… it’s all serious, it’s high stakes.
“It’s an amazing tournament. The PGA lays it on – the prize is getting there! The functions are awesome and the venue is awesome. It was perfect and we’ve told all our friends – you’ve got to keep playing in the Holden Scramble every year until you get through because it’s a week you will never forget.”
The host course, Twin Waters Golf Club, is internationally recognised as one of the top six resort courses in Australia and the best on the Sunshine Coast. The championship course was designed by five time British Open champion Peter Thomson and partner Mike Wolveridge. The stunning setting and challenging layout combine to produce an enjoyable game of golf for all players.
The Sunshine Coast is just an hour’s drive north from Brisbane and offers visitors the perfect mix of Coast and Hinterland. Seductive sunsets, intoxicating views, sparkling waters, and warm weather – waiting to welcome you from Caloundra, Mooloolaba, Coolum and Noosa along the coast, to the enchanting Maleny, Montville, Mapleton and Mary Valley on the hinterland.
