The ladies of Lucindale Golf Club had an event to remember. Celebrating an exciting milestone in 2020 after ticking over more than a decade of hosting their Volkswagen Scramble Women’s Open which coincided with the Women’s Golf Day celebrations.

Women’s Golf Day is an annual event for females of all ages and skill levels to participate in golf and help grow the game, which goes hand in hand with the vision of Women’s section of the Volkswagen Scramble.  PGA of Australia Events Manager, Louise Meagher is looking forward to growing the Women’s Golf Day profile in conjunction with the Volkswagen Scramble.

“We were excited this year to work with Callaway, who have recently launched their new Big Bertha Reva range, distance designed for Women and provide one lucky Lucindale participant with a brand-new driver” said Meagher

“The Volkswagen Scramble is about a fun and friendly competition, the perfect environment for females of all abilities to come together and enjoy our great game of golf.  We are looking forward to growing our celebrations of Women’s Golf Day in 2021.  This year we are excited to see our Women’s events continue to grow whilst also celebrating clubs such as Lucindale who have a rich and successful history with the event.”

Wendy Johnson, the organizer of the event for the past two seasons, was thrilled to once again host a successful Volkswagen Scramble event.

“It’s great to see the ladies being a strong advocate for the event across so many years,” said Johnson.

“The Callaway driver created a lot of buzz. When the ladies realized it was up for grabs there was a lot of going back to handbags for more dollars when we raffled it off,” Johnson added.

“The delighted winner was Karon Dinning from Bordertown, she did a victory lap around the clubrooms!”

The winning team comprised of Michelle Justin, Leanne Graetz, Sharon Menz and Kerry Gilkes who posted a net score of 59.75.

“We have all played the Volkswagen Scramble event before but not together as a team,” said Gilkes.

“I came into the team as the higher handicapper and felt quite stressed about getting the three tee shots but we ended up taking my first drive off the tee which settled my nerves.

“Leanne chipped and putted so well across the day and Sharon and Michelle drove consistently which put us in good positions, I think we all played to our strengths.

“The event format is a hit amongst us, the elimination of a person after taking their shot is unique and provides great tactical discussions amongst the team.”

Barry Maney Volkswagen Sales Manager Nathan Lewis has been an avid supporter of the Volkswagen Scramble and the Lucindale Golf Club for many years.

“It’s great that we can once again support the Lucindale Golf Club Volkswagen Scramble. It allows us to support the community at a grass roots level and engage with the players,” said Lewis.

The support from their local Volkswagen Dealership meant Wendy and her teams were able to offer local produce hampers and bunches of native flowers as prizes.

“It was fantastic to have Barry Maney Volkswagen sponsor our event. We put the money towards prizes that were raffled off,” said Johnson.

Winning teams from local events progress to the State Finals which will be held across the country in April 2021. Winning teams will assemble at a premium venue in each state to battle for the chance to make the Championship Final in May.
