Beginners through to experienced Scramblers bought into the fun and frivolity as The Scramble made a triumphant return to Moore Park Golf in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

One of the busiest golf facilities in Australia welcomed 48 participants on September 1 for the first Scramble at Moore Park in many years, the atmosphere created ensuring it will continue to be a fixture on the calendar in future.

The team of Andrew Huang, Tony Huang, Daniel Larkin and Scott Leffley came out on top to book their place in the Regional Final coming up in October. The local season for The Scramble ends on October 1st, so time is running out to try and play your way to the Championship Final at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club in December.

Hosted by Moore Park Golf, Moore Park Golf Club members were welcome to play at a reduced cost and Scramble Coordinator Saketh Renati said it was the diversity of people playing that made the day such a success.

“The enthusiasm of the participants and the various golfing backgrounds they came from was very encouraging,” said Saketh.

“We had golfers who had only just recently got their handicap, as well as players who had experience playing in several Scramble events take part.

“It was a day of humour and friendly banter, with all the teams keen to do well but play in the right spirit.

“It provided an opportunity for Moore Park Golf Club members as well as staff to play together as well, to build on the great relationship they enjoy.

“There was a fun atmosphere in the precinct on the day of the event and it was something all visitors could share in as well.”

Not only does the format provide a welcoming entry point to competitive golf for those new to the game, but the team structure also fosters a social enjoyment that Saketh says was on show for all to see at Moore Park.

“There was plenty of team camaraderie on display, with teams posing proudly for their team photos and encouraging their teammates during their round,” Saketh said.

“The collective happiness when one of the team members won a nearest-the-pin or longest drive was heart-warming to witness.”

Given its success in 2023, The Scramble promises to have a bright future at Moore Park Golf.

“We plan on continuing to host The Scramble, building on the foundation and feedback received this year,” Saketh added.

“We hope to have a shotgun start by pairing up two teams on each hole to add some more uniqueness in the coming years.

“We also hope that our partners will also be keen to build into a bigger event, giving away more prizes and promotions.”
