Palm Meadows Golf Club (Qld) will go into the final round with a 1.2 shot lead over the rapidly climbing Biggenden Golf Club (Qld) after struggling through a difficult round with a score of 54.9 nett. Biggenden set the pace early, being the first team to tee-off this morning and shooting the low round of the day with a 51.5 nett.
Palm Meadows’ biggest strength yesterday became their weakness as they struggled to hole putts.
“It was a stark contrast” PGA Professional and Team Captain Matt Keirnan had to say after the round,
“We had 18 putts yesterday and I hope we can bring that form to the Final Round”.
All teams were looking to hit their straps today, with the prospect of joining a Touring Professional for the final round, but tough conditions made scoring difficult for teams in pursuit of a top position.
15 teams will be joined by Touring Professionals which includes names such as Web.Com Tour player Ashley Hall, three time PGA Tour of Australasia winner Jason Norris and eight time LPGA Tour Winner Rachel Hetherington.
The leaders are fortunate enough to be joined by the in-form Clint Rice, who is coming off a top-5 finish at the NSW PGA Championship and is sure to be an invaluable asset as they try to hold on and claim the title.
2.6 shots of the pace are El Arish Golf Club (Qld), making it an all Queensland affair at the top of the leader board. El Arish will be looking to their Touring Professional, a previous winner of the Holden Scramble Championship Final, Jason Norris, to lift them over the top of the front runners.
In the Women’s Championship Final, Barossa Valley Golf Club (SA), lead by PGA Professional Ian Devlin, are ahead by 2.4 shots from Katanning Golf Club (WA) who are hot on their heels heading to the final round.
Goulburn Golf Club (NSW) are also looking for a late charge as they try to defy the odds and overcome a 6 shot deficit.
