Australia will have four confirmed starters when The Masters tees off from 5-8 April at Augusta National.

The first Major of the year will feature 2013 champion Adam Scott, World Number 12 Jason Day, the 2017 Greg Norman Award medalist Marc Leishman and Australian PGA Champion Cameron Smith.

While six Australasians get a final chance to qualify in to the 2018 Masters field with a win in this week’s Houston Open, the four mentioned above have sealed their spot in the prestigious tournament.

Scott has had a mixed bag of results in the early part of 2018, two top-20 finishes combined with a missed cut, a T41 and T53 position in his first five events of the year.

However the 2013 Masters Champion has made no secret of the fact his focus is largely on the four Majors of the season.

Day is the only Australian winner on the PGA TOUR so far this season taking out a marathon playoff over Swede Alex Noren in the Farmers Insurance Open, the Queenslander’s first event of the year.

He followed that sterling performance up quickly with a runner-up finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach tournament, reminding us all of the blistering 2015/2016 form he still has in him.

Leishman enjoyed a standout year in 2017, winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational and BMW Championship on the PGA TOUR among a string of high finishes.

Of the four confirmed for The Masters, Leishman has the most golf under his belt so far this season having teed it up in eight tournaments so far.

He finished inside the top-10 in three of those, T7 in the Sentry Tournament of Champions, T8 in the Farmers Insurance Open and another T7 finish while defending his Arnold Palmer Invitational title.

Cam Smith assured himself a place in The Masters while simultaneously confirming his reputation as a great match player with a run to the quarter finals of the WGC Dell Matchplay in Texas.

He claimed a major scalp on day two when he won a hard-fought contest against World Number 6 Hideki Matsuyama, that victory setting up an opportunity to win his pool and advance to the round of 16.

Smith eventually fell to the in-form Alex Noren in the quarter finals and while disappointed, said he was happy to have secured a top-50 World Ranking and thus a ticket to Augusta.

“I was just coming here to try and win the tournament,” said Smith.

“I didn’t want to get obsessed with results of qualifying for The Masters.

“I’m a little annoyed at losing (to Noren) because I felt as though I handed Alex the match with a few mistakes.

“It is a huge relief. My biggest goal for the early part of this year was to get back into the top-50 so I could play The Masters and I’m really excited to get back.”

The Masters will be broadcast live free-to-air on 9 and ad free on FOX SPORTS Australia, check your local guides for times.
