The Holden Scramble is a marquee event for some clubs across Australia but for some budding amateur golfers, one Scramble is never enough.

WA’s Kevin Wheeler and his wife Khanungnit played 11 separate Holden Scramble events together over the 2015-2016 seasons and have shown no signs of slowing down as they’ve ticked off another 7 events so far this season.

“We’ve been members of Capel Golf Club for about five years.  My wife got me in to golf, she went for one ladies game and just got hooked on it, I’ve played badly all my life,” said Kevin.

“So she and I and our neighbours Gavin Reynolds and his wife Maz have played most of the events together.”

Playing in events at their home club of Capel as well as Harvey, Donnybrook, Binningup, Dunsborough, Sanctuary, Bunbury and Collie isn’t a stretch for the keen group of amateurs.

So far one of their highlights has been at the Mosman Park Holden Scramble in Perth earlier this year.

“We’re members of Capel in South Western Australia so all those golf courses are within an hour or so of us, but we did play one in Perth at Mosman Park which is a couple of hours and it was a fantastic trip to experience the course.

“It was excellent the Mosman event, definitely one of the best we’ve been to.”

While a win has so far eluded the husband and wife quartet, they’ll still be happy to tee it up in as many events as they can.

“We’ve finished in the top-3 quite a few times, a second and a third and few fourths have been our best finish.

Similar results again this year. If there’s two teams qualifying through we’ll still come third,” Kevin Joked.

As is the goal with all Holden Scrambler’s, the team certainly has one eye on qualifying for the Championship Final held at Twin Waters Golf Club and Novotel Twin Waters Resort with this season’s final to be held from 18 – 21 May 2018.

“Absolutely we’d love to make the Final in Queensland but at the moment it’s just great fun to play in the separate events around our town.”
