Shelly Beach Golf Club have long been a strong supporter of the Volkswagen Scramble.
The club runs both their Women’s and Mixed Volkswagen Scrambles purely due to membership demand for golfing events.
Shelly Beach hosted their Women’s Scramble on the Wednesday 29 January, with another strong field size of 96 women teeing it up. The club always provides great value to their members, with the women enjoying a lunch during presentations plus a chance to share in over $1,400 worth of prizes.
With the added support of their local Volkswagen dealer, Central Coast Volkswagen was able to assist Julie Mackey in her quest to purchase a Volkswagen Amarok.
“We had a lunch before the presentation and a flyer was there offering $1,000 off,” Mackey said.
Mackey was in the market for a new car due to their Toyota Prado blowing a piston whilst on their Christmas holidays and their engine inevitably seized up.
“We purchased a V6 because it is a bit more powerful to tow our camper trailer.”
With a love for golf and the outdoors, Mackey and her husband are always searching for their next adventure making the Amarok the perfect fit.
“We test drove a lot of cars and had our heart set on a second-hand Land Crusier. Our son has a Volkswagen Amarok and suggested we take it for a test drive,” Mackey said.
“Lucky we did because it was amazing. It was easy to drive and had the technology that the Landcruiser didn’t. For the same price as the second-hand Land Cruiser it was a no brainer.”
It’s fair to say the ladies have been a dominant force in striving to make the event one of the biggest on the club calendar.
“Shelly Beach runs this event each year for the ladies and I have played quite a few years. Each year I am in a different team. It’s a special day and I love the team spirit,” she said.
Mackey joined forces with Eunice De Vries, Emma De Vries and Kathryn Dean to shoot a 63.6 and finish in second place to book their spot in the Women’s State Final. There Mackey and her team will contend for a position in the Championship Final held on the naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast.
