Bunbury Golf Club again played host to one of the most popular Holden Scramble events in Western Australia where the McCarrey boys took out the event in their first Scramble as a family.
Dad Peter and his three sons Andrew (34), Robert (32) and Iain (30) have always played socially at their home club of Ledge Point on a course designed by PGA of Australia Life Member Jock Borthwick.
Peter, who is also a previous member himself at Royal Fremantle, said the Scramble was suggested by his eldest son Andrew.
“We’re a very sports orientated family, all the boys used to play AFL, cricket and water polo but they all concentrate on their golf now they’ve finished with those other sports,” Peter said.
“Andrew entered us all in the Bunbury Holden Scramble and I love the course there it’s fantastic, the boy’s mother is from there so we know it pretty well.”
The McCarrey crew were quick to recommend entering a Scramble to other families; Peter said it was a fun day to spend together with his sons.
“On course with a family dynamic there is plenty of sledging and banter as a team; it’s all in good fun.
“We certainly didn’t expect to win the event but the boys are already strategising for the next stage and know they have to work on their driving and chipping!
“It was special to win this event as family. We have previously won a grand final in cricket together and it would be unbelievable if we could make it through to the Championship Final and even win.”
The McCarrey family were one of 30 teams at Bunbury Golf Club, with the event strongly supported by the Bunbury Holden dealership.
Scramblers were treated to wood fire pizza after their rounds thanks to Bunbury Holden and settled in to watch the Fremantle Dockers v West Coast Eagles derby at the clubhouse in what was a fantastic day for the club.
