There is an event that has become so synonymous with golf in Australia that this month while the world’s attention is focused on The Open it will celebrate a landmark record.

For golfers in Australia the Holden Scramble is like the Running of the Bulls for thrill seekers, New York Marathon for fitness fanatics or the Glastonbury Festival for music fans and the 10,000th Holden Scramble event is fast approaching.
Having been played since 1992, the Holden Scramble is much loved by Australian golfers because it brings together participants of all age groups and skill levels in a fun and competitive tournament atmosphere.

The Holden Scramble will be on display in all its glory at its 10,000th event which is proudly being staged by the Muswellbrook Golf Club on the 11th July.

One Muswellbrook local excited to see the milestone event being celebrated in his back yard is Tour Professional Kurt Barnes who himself has been a long-time supporter of the Holden Scramble.
“This is pretty special, I really hope that all the club members and golfers in the community jump on board and be a part of history,” said Barnes who attended the Championship Final in 2004, 2005, 2007 when he won with the team from Taupo Golf Club and then again in 2008.

The beauty of the Holden Scramble is that it affords amateur golfers the opportunity to play alongside their local PGA Professional and for a lucky few at the Championship Final to also play with a Tour Professional.

Barnes, who has won on the PGA Tour of Australasia and Japan Tour, has been a regular at the Championship Final over the years and loves all that the Holden Scramble represents.

“I have competed in the Holden Scramble as both an amateur and a Tour Pro and I love the team component; golf is an individual sport so it’s nice to come together as a team, compete together and spur each other on,” added Barnes.
“Everyone plays a big part during the Holden Scramble which makes it a really fun day on the course.”

While Muswellbrook Golf Club might be the lucky venue to be hosting the 10,000th local Holden Scramble event there have been a huge number of golf courses around the country and colourful characters who have contributed to the long-term success of this incredible participation event.

“Over the years the Holden Scramble has received incredible support from every corner of Australia, we have seen golf courses as remote as Kalgoorlie and Norfolk Island host a local event right through to some of the most famous courses in the world like Royal Melbourne,” said Michael Chard, National Events Manager at the PGA of Australia.

“Each club brings their unique personality to the Holden Scramble and that is what makes it so special, no two events are exactly the same but what they all do have in common is their ability to promote golf at the grass roots level while ensuring every participant enjoys their day on the green.”

Entries for the 10,000th Holden Scramble event at Muswellbrook Golf Club are still open with each competitor receiving six Callaway super soft golf balls, 10,000th event commemorative Callaway hat and a Golf Australia Magazine.

A range of fantastic prizes are also up for grabs on the day as is the chance to represent Muswellbrook Golf Club at the Holden Scramble Regional Finals.
