The 2020/21 Volkswagen Scramble season has been full of surprises this year… but one thing that doesn’t surprise is that field sizes for Volkswagen Scramble events continue to rise. With golf booming throughout Australia, Scramble field sizes are also reaping the rewards, meaning more teams qualifying through to the Regional Finals to represent their clubs in the hope to make it to the coveted Championship Final.
Gosford, a bustling hub in the heart of Central Coast of New South Wales has produced one of the largest fields in history, almost doubling their field size on last year and hosting the largest Volkswagen Scramble to date this season. A huge field of 240 players graced the picturesque fairways to battle it out for one of four positions at the regional final series.
PGA Professional and General Manager at Gosford Golf Club, Kieran Moran, has been running Mixed and Ladies Volkswagen Scramble events for the last three years. This year was the first time Kieran has seen 4 teams qualify from Gosford to represent the club at Regional Finals.
We are really excited to have additional opportunities for Gosford to be represented at the Championship Final and this was all made possible by the tremendous support of our members and of course the positive feedback from previous years events.
This was all made possible by successful use of “marketing material and positive word of mouth” amongst the membership base, said Kieran.
The added support from Central Coast Volkswagen ensured the members and guests are treated to a wonderful day on course, the value for money ensures field sizes are healthy and also allows the club to give back to the membership throughout the golfing year.
The day was full of birdies, eagles with cheers echoing all around the course, the biggest cheer of the day going to Danny Hwang who shot the lights on the 160m Par 3 8th hole, to find the hole for a milestone hole-in-one
In the end the winning team of Graham Toope, Jack Ragen, Adam Wooodbine and Samuel Lamont were too hot on course, finishing with a sizzling net score of 51 to be crowned the Gosford Volkswagen Scramble Champions”.
