Moree Golf Club and PGA Professional David Wright have been recognised by MP Adam Marshall, Member of Northern Tablelands in NSW, for their resourcefulness in hosting their latest Volkswagen Scramble event.

The much-loved tournament was acknowledged for its result in generating greater community participation after months of social restrictions in the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As an operator of Volkswagen Scramble events for 28 years, Wright was determined to take full advantage of the increase in golf participation as restrictions began to ease and collaborated with Moree Tourism to help promote the event.

“Golf numbers have been excellent of late with a lot of new players taking up the game and members playing more regularly,” said Wright.

“I got Moree Tourism to help get the word out; we used social media, newsletters and emailed all the members.”

The winning team consisted of Teresa Munro, Kylie Wicks, Vicky Gall and Tempe Onus with a score of 59.75 net.

“We had such a great day and are very excited to be heading to the Women’s State Final, we look forward to playing with David in the next stage,” said Munro.

The event brought teams together from across the region including Narrabri, Inverell, Amridale, Gonndiwindi and Wee Waa, leading to Wright receiving a Community Recognition Statement from MP Adam Marshall.

“It was an opportunity to forget the year’s hardships and everyone had a terrific day out. David is relatively new to Moree and we welcome such professionals to the Northern Tablelands, who contribute to the wellbeing of our regional communities,” said Marshall.

“I commend David for his commitment to his profession, which encompasses a commitment to the Moree community and surrounding districts.”

“I’d like to thank Maddi and her team for their help with our events and we will be conducting a third event in March 2021 and encourage all PGA Members to hold an event where possible,” said Wright.

A PGA Professional since 1984, Wright has been to the Championship Final twice in his career with a best finish of third place at Sanctuary Cove Golf Club.
