With just one Regional Final to be played in mid-April, the Holden Scramble Championship Final is beginning to take shape.
Capricorn was first off the mark last week, with Boyne Tannum Club winning their way through to the Sunshine Coast with a net score of 53.3.
This will be PGA Professional, Ben Fletcher’s, first time at Holden Scramble Championship Final and he is excited to get the team ready for the final.
“I’m so happy to be making it to the Championship Final, especially because this is the first Holden Scramble I have run at the club. We all are close friends who are members at Boyne Tannum so it’s great to be going through to the Championship together,” said Fletcher, Head Professional at Boyne Tannum Club.
Southern Open Regional Final featured a family team, with husband and wife, Chris Wong and Wi-Lu Kim, and son, Nicholas, coming out on top with an unbelievable net score of 49.3 helped along by Nicholas Chong scoring a hole-in-one on the 12th.
Winners Ballarat Golf Club, led by PGA Professional David Wallis, together with Anthony Cross, Michael Cross, Leigh Cross and James Poppe held off a host of teams to grab the one spot available at the Sands Torquay Regional Final.
This will be Wallis’ second Championship Final and he can’t wait for a ‘boy’s trip’ up to the Sunshine Coast.
“I made it to the Championship Final in 2015 and it was so much fun! The social side to the final is amazing. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what team you’re representing, everyone gets around each other and has a great time, it’s awesome!”
PGA Professional, Shane Butler, will play his first Holden Scramble Championship with the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club team and is excited to head up to Twin Waters.
“I’ve played in a few Regional Finals before but never a Championship. The closest I’ve come was two years ago when my team missed out by 0.1 of a shot,” said Butler.
“I’d love to get in a few practice sessions with the team but unfortunately I live eight hours away from the rest of them. We will head up to the Sunshine Coast searching for fun and if we score well too then so be it!”
The Regional Finals come to a close mid April with Paradise Palms Country Club fishing off the 2017/2018 Holden Scramble season.
