The Holden Scramble Regional Finals are now in full swing with six more qualifying teams grabbing the one Regional Final spot available for the Championship Final held at Twin Waters Golf Club from 18 – 21 May.
Pelican Waters was the first to host a Regional Final for the week starting Sunday the 11 March, Kingaroy Golf Club winning their way through to the Sunshine Coast with a score of -23.8 under par.
This will be the first time Kingaroy GC is represented at Holden Scramble Championship Final. “We have been running Holden Scrambles at Kingaroy for more than 20 years and to be truthful most of the time we haven’t even been close, so to get through to Championship Final is a great feeling,” said Tony Jenkins, Kingaroy Team Member.
PGA Professional, Craig Mears, will play his sixth Holden Scramble Championship with the Coonamble Golf Club team and is excited to get in a few practice sessions before the final.
“I’ve had a pretty good track record up at Twin Waters Golf Club so I can’t wait to see how we go this year. Hopefully we can add another win to the tally,” said Mears.
Ladies Winners City Golf Club, led PGA Professional Ian Esson, together with Margaret Richards, Alielia Freeman, Glenda Murray and Anita Ryleheld held off a host of teams to attain the one qualifying spot at the Regional Final, played at Pelican Waters Golf Club.
This will be Esson’s third Championship Final and he is excited to get the team ready.
“I have never played a Ladies Championship Final before so I’m excited to see what it is like. The ladies are thrilled about the win,” said Esson.
“They have asked me to do a bit of coaching before the final to sharpen up a few things, so I’ll be sure to spend a bit of time with them over the next coming weeks!”
Southern Golf Club Ladies Regional Final featured a team with a mother-daughter duo, Wendy Hennesy and Georgia Macklan, coming out on top with a score of -20.6 under par. The Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club team came second in last year’s Regional Final by only 0.3 of a shot.
“We are thrilled to be qualifying through to the Championships Finals this year after coming so close last year,” said Wendy Hennesy.
Other Regional Final winners including Cootamundra Golf Club and Dubbo Golf Club will also be represented in Australia’s largest and most successful pro-amateur team’s event, the Holden Scramble, at the event’s Championship Final on the Sunshine Coast.
