Taree Golf Club has taken their Volkswagen Scramble offering to a new level by introducing a first-ever women’s only event in 2019.

Located on the Mid North Coast of NSW, a stellar field of 44 ladies teed it up in the inaugural event held on Sunday 13 October to great success.

After recently moving up the ranks to become the Head PGA Professional at Taree Golf Club, Paul Coutie wanted to introduce a fresh and exciting competition for their ladies’ members to compete in.

“We have been running a mixed event here for years now and it has always been very successful amongst our membership and visitors,” Coutie said.

“So we thought to ourselves, why don’t we give the same opportunity to our ladies.”

Determined to get the event up and running, Paul and his team took full advantage of community connections to promote the event through a variety of avenues.

“We created flyers and sent them out to local clubs in the area, inviting their ladies to come play in our event,” he said.

“We also promoted the event on our digital media platforms and word of mouth at all our local competitions leading up to the event.”

“Once the teams were interested, we directed them to register online through the Volkswagen Scramble website to confirm our numbers.”

Local Volkswagen Dealership, Taree Volkswagen were out in full force as well,  showcasing a number of the vehicles for the competitors.

The winning team consisted of Melinda Allan, Judy Hoppe, Judy Fuller and Annette Stewart with a net score of 58.

Melinda Allan, a full time staff member in the pro shop, worked with Paul to ensure the day was a success.

“I know the Volkswagen Scramble format very well and I knew it would be a good fit to run a ladies competition at Taree Golf Club. It’s an event that allows you to play with great friends while also supporting your local golf club,” Allan said.

“We played great on the day but didn’t expect to win. The highlight of the day was my teammate Judy Fuller hitting a 120 meter hybrid shot over a creek uphill, straight into the hole for an eagle on the 5^th. It was amazing.”

A third of the club’s ladies membership played in event, including the Ladies President

Holly Innes.

“We enjoyed the format and all the girls had a lot of fun. It also brought a number of visitors into our club to experience our course,” Innes said.

“I’d like to thank Paul and Melinda in the pro shop for putting the day together for us.”

Paul Coutie was thrilled that they day was a success and thanks his local Volkswagen Dealership, Taree Volkswagen, for their continued support.

“We had a great day and all the women enjoyed themselves,” Coutie said.

“The day rolled well and Paul from Taree Volkswagen was great, he brought some cars up to display, provided a sponsorship investment for the club and also came up for presentations to handout the prizes which was awesome.”

“We are motivated to improve our Scramble events and are looking forward to creating the mixed event to be bigger and better than last year.”
