Following on from a mad month of Regional Finals, 30 teams of amateurs and their local PGA Professionals from around Australia will descend upon the Twin Waters Championship layout for the big show; the 2014 Holden Scramble Championship Final.
Whilst a love of Golf is one thing that all competitors have in common, it certainly isn’t all they will be focussing on once they arrive at Twin Waters. With three planned evening functions including a BBQ under the stars, Rock of Ages Theme Night and Gala Presentation Dinner, there’s plenty more to enjoy at then just the fairways.
Someone who knows all to well about the festivities at Twin Waters will be PGA Head Professional at Laidley Golf Club, Roger Vandenberg, who qualified for a fourth consecutive time in October. Roger guided his team beautifully to take out the Pelican Waters Women’s State Final, and this now means that two Mixed and two Women’s teams have made it to the Championship Final from Laidley.
While in New South Wales there must be something in the Powerade at Howlong Golf Club, who have qualified to the Championship Final for the third year in a row.
The 2014 Holden Scramble season marked the first occasion that Women’s State Finals were held in South Australia and Tasmania, making room for six Ladies teams at the Championship Final. It has been six years since a Women’s team has qualified from Tasmania, and eight years since a Ladies team has made the trip from South Australia.
The girls have something particularly special to look forward to at the Championship Final, with two European Tour Pro’s Nikki Garrett and Tamara Johns, as well as eight times LPGA Tour Winner Rachel Hetherington joining the top three teams for the final round.
Another good performance has been put in by Ballarat Golf Club, who achieved the double by qualifying in both the Mixed and Women’s section of the Scramble. This will hopefully inspire some rivalry between the teams, to see who can return back to their home club victorious.
Not only will pride be on the line, a place in the International Challenge Tour is up for grabs for the winning team with the lowest net score over the tournament. The team will go on to play a home and away leg against the China Golf League to determine the best of the best.
