On Tuesday the 20th of May Blackwood Golf Club held its first ever Women’s Holden Scramble event. While the winning team will be advancing to the State Final, it was the effort of the fourth place team that drew attention.
They called themselves “the Pensioners Team” and their nett score of 64 ¾ was an amazing ten shots better than their average age of 74 ¾. The team’s combined ages total 303 years and they’ve all been members of Blackwood for over 30 years!
The team, from left to right are:
Val Hicks (age 73, GA handicap 14.8) – mother of Blackwood club champion Jo Buchanan who was in the winning team.
Nancy Kamm (age 78, GA handicap 31.7)
Carmen Woodard (age 87, GA handicap 36.8) – has been playing at Blackwood since 1969 – she and Nancy play in Blackwood’s 9 hole comp every Tuesday. This was Carmen’s first Holden Scramble.
Lorry Brown (age 65, GA handicap 8.4) – the baby of the team! Lorry is currently half of the Club Foursomes champions (won in April) and is a past club champion and played pennant for the club for many, many years.
