Jamie Whincup has defended his title and beaten strong competition to take out the V8 Supercar Driver Challenge as part of the Holden Young Lions Longest Drive Competition at the 2015 Clipsal 500.
Pitted against fellow Holden drivers Garth Tander, James Courtney, Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes, pride was on the line with the drivers vying for bragging rights along pit lane.
Red Bull Racing combination of Whincup and Lowndes were first off the line with respectable drives of 271m and 241m respectively. Next it was the Holden Racing Team duo of Tander and Courtney who were left to chase the leaders, and they left nothing in the tank, with Courtney coming agonisingly close to knocking it past Whincup, falling short by just one metre.
This competition must have fired all the drivers up, as both Red Bull Racing and the Holden Racing Team turned in impressive performances on the track, with Whincup claiming the honours in the first race, whilst Courtney turned around his luck from the long drive competition, by taking out the main prize after finishing on top at the end of race three.
The Holden Young Lions Longest Drive Competition was also open to all attendees of the Clipsal 500, with those participants in need of a tune up, being able to get some advice from South Australian Holden Young Lion and PGA Professional, Chris Duke. With large crowds throughout the entire event, the Clipsal 500 enabled thousands of motor racing fans to engage with the Holden Young Lions program, and give them an opportunity to ‘out drive’ their racing idols.
