Wentworth Golf Club and Balaklava Golf Club have gone wire to wire to win the 2016 Holden Scramble Championship Final at Twin Waters Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast.
With rounds of 51, 50 and 49, the Wentworth Golf Club were a class above the field running away with a four shot victory.
“It was a pretty nervous start to the round today, but towards the end of the round and we did it tough to get the required tee shots away, but we got the job done.” said Wentworth PGA Professional, Todd Brakenridge
“Over the three days it was a real team effort, we didn’t have any single player the outplayed the rest, it certainly was a team effort. We just managed to hole some great putts which is vital in this format.”
“It was a massive help by our Touring Professional, Scott Laycock. It was a real buzz playing with him, I am sure the guys enjoyed playing with him and it is a lifetime memory for sure.”
In the 25th anniversary year of the Holden Scramble, the win was that little more special for the team who have travelled from Orange in New South Wales.
“We are thrilled to win the Championship Final, particularly in the 25th year. It’s nice to come from a country area in New South Wales and claim the victory.”
Lead by PGA Professional Chris Duke, the Balaklava Golf Club from South Australia claimed the women’s section of the Holden Scramble Championship Final.
The team could not have thought in their wildest dreams that they would be national champions when they entered their local event in back in July.
“Never in a million years, we are just so lucky to be here and are so greatful to the Holden Scramble. It has allowed us as amateurs to be in this position today.” said the representatives from the team
“We have been a fantastic combination for this format, and we have enjoyed the course and every minute of the event, with some great time on the course and off.”
“The Championship Final was everything and more that we could of hoped for and the PGA and Holden have done an awesome job putting this event together.”
The PGA Touring Professionals who joined the Holden Scramble Championship final today will now make their way south for the 2016 Australian PGA Championship at RACV Royal Pines Resort.
The Sunshine Coast has become synonymous with the Holden Scramble after staging 19 of the 25 Finals. It was been a massive year for the Holden Scramble celebrating the 25th anniversary, 1 millionth participant and the 25,000th women’s participant.
