A full field of 108 participants, a fun atmosphere, and a hole-in-one… Pymble Golf Club’s first Women’s Scramble had it all.

Building on the success of The Mixed Scramble events that the club has hosted in the past, Pymble Golf Club on Sydney’s Upper North Shore made the decision this year to add a Women’s Scramble for the first time.

The response was overwhelming.

“We love hosting fun competition days at the club, which is what The Scramble is all about,” said Pymble’s Scramble Coordinator, Lauren McGill.

“Having a fun format like The Scramble’s elimination ambrose gets all our members excited for the day.

“It was also great to see everyone mingling in the Members Bar afterwards for presentation.”

The success of the day was cause for double celebration for Lauren who just so happened to be part of the winning team.

Lauren, Janet Benecke, Lynda Bayliss and Heather Peters won by a single stroke with a nett score of 11-under 61, a hole-in-one ultimately proving to be the difference.

“Having a full field out there was what contributed to the day’s success; a hole-in-one in the winning group was also an added bonus!” Lauren added.

“Hopefully we can continue hosting both a Mixed and Women’s Scramble event each year.

“It is a great day for our members to be a part of and we love being able to support the PGA.”

Finishing in second place was the team of Bernadette Aquilina, Robin Hall, Maria Santana and Denise Woods with a score of 10-under 62, one shot clear of the team of Ros French, Heather Hampson, Anne Jackson and Sharon Smith.

Women’s and Mixed Scramble events will continue to be played across the country in July, August and September before the Regional and State Finals take place in October, all leading up to the sought-after Championship Finals in December.
